Result: Alexander knocked Bey off the Ultimate X cables before unhooking the title (15:45).
Rating: World-class stuff. Seriously. IMPACT Wrestling never gets the credit they deserve, and then a match like this comes along. The first Ultimate X match in over two years was always going to be a safe bet to open the pay-per-view, and immediately, they delivered a show-stealing performance.
This was a prime example of a multi-man cruiserweight-style match being worked to sheer perfection. There wasn't a moment tedious to watch, while at the same time, the match wasn't too over the top, keeping its main spots somewhat spaced throughout.
Helping the flow of the match wonderfully was the vastly different styles of the wrestlers on offer. When Josh Alexander wasn't punching fools right in the jaw, Chris Bey was flipping over the ropes with ease and land on his feet. For every Trey Miguel innovation, there was Rohit Raju being a comedic genius while still posing a serious threat.
Waiting 498 days for fans to return to the IMPACT Zone was made instantaneously worth it when this outing was finished. Marquee bouts like this are only held every so often so as to not eclispe each other. If we have to wait two and a half years for the next Ultimate X match, it's no issue, so long as it's capable of living up to Slammiversary's offering. 9.5/10
