Karrion Kross has seemingly emerged as the next contender to Adam Cole's NXT Championship.

This development came from an angle that played out after Cole had defeated Dexter Lumis in a non-title bout on last night's show. Outnumbered by The Undisputed Era, Lumis looked to be in trouble at the end of the night, though the heels were eventually ran off by Velveteen Dream (who was assisted by Dexter at TakeOver: In Your House), leaving Cole alone in the ring.

Kross' manager, Scarlett, came out from the back. She walked down to the ring without saying a word then pulled an hourglass out, setting the sands of time in motion on the mat. The NXT Champion was left staring down upon it as the black-and-gold brand finished for the evening.

Cole is the longest-reigning NXT Champion of all time, having held the strap for over a year. His win over Dream at TakeOver means Velveteen cannot challenge for the belt while 'The Panama City Playboy' is champion. Kross, meanwhile, destroyed former champ Tommaso Ciampa at In Your House, with previous reports suggest an immediate rocket push upon arriving in NXT.
