Major AEW Favourite Suffers Potentially "Serious" Knee Injury

This AEW favourite suffered a nasty knee injury last night.

El Hijo del Vikingo
AEW/AAA

Having been in action for Rencor Extremo last night, El Hijo del Vikingo has suffered a right knee injury that "may be a serious one".

Taking place at Arena López Mateos, Vikingo teamed with Psycho Clown and Wotan to take on Trauma I, Fresero Jr., and Demonio Infernal. Unfortunately, the match had to be stopped when Vikingo landed awkwardly.

As reported by Más Lucha (via luchablog and the Wrestling Observer):

Currently in the midst of an 800+ day reign as the AAA Mega Champion, Vikingo was assessed at the building, with concerns that he may have ruptured a tendon.

Away from AAA, of course, El Hijo del Vikingo is also a huge favourite of AEW, with him having consistently impressed for that promotion and for Ring of Honor. Vikingo's most recent AEW outing was on the 24 January edition of Rampage, where he was part of a four-way bout won by Komander to determine a challenger for Orange Cassidy and the AEW International Championship.

The La Tijera Lucha Libre YouTube channel has footage of Vikingo's injury and him subsequently being carried to the back:

Expect to hear more on this injury as information becomes available.

In the meantime, the well wishes of all of us here at WhatCulture Wrestling go out to El Hijo del Vikingo at this time.
