Major AEW Injury Update On Adam Copeland
Adam Copeland has been out of action since Double or Nothing.
Having been out of action since May, there's some hugely positive news on the return to the ring of AEW's Adam Copeland.
As per PWInsider Elite, Copeland has been cleared for physicality. However, for those hoping to see the Rated R Superstar lacing up his boots again before the year is out, that looks unlikely.
For those unaware, the one-time Edge is currently filming the second season of Disney+'s Percy Jackson series, where Copeland plays Ares, the God of War. Filming is due to conclude in January, meaning the Canadian will presumably be tied up with Percy Jackson commitments until then. Still, it's a major boost to just hear that Adam Copeland is cleared for physicality as and when his schedule allows him to return to in-ring action.
Of course, Copeland suffered a broken tibia after diving off the top of a steel cage during his match against Malakai Black at Double or Nothing back in May. The then-AEW TNT Champion would finish the match and retain his gold against the House of Black man, but Copeland would be stripped of that title on the next episode of AEW Dynamite. There, the Young Bucks declared Jack Perry as the new TNT Champion, with Perry holding that belt until this past weekend, where he lost it to Daniel Garcia at Full Gear.
Adam Copeland In AEW
After his second WWE run came to an end in September 2023, Adam Copeland wasted no time in heading to AEW, turning up at WrestleDream just one day after his WWE exit became official. Still able to use Alter Bridge's Metalingus as his entrance theme, and also that Rated R Superstar moniker, Copeland arrived at the end of WrestlDream to save Sting and Darby Allin from an attack by Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne.
As for his time in AEW, the 11-time World Champion's first match with the company saw him take on Luchasaurus on the 10 October 2023 AEW Dynamite. That was part of Copeland's wider rivalry with his long-time on-off best friend Christian Cage, with the veterans feuding through until 2024 and exchanging the AEW TNT Title three times.
Prior to his injury, and once Christian was just about in his rearview mirror, Copeland was positioned as the classic fighting champion, defending the TNT Title against Matt Cardona, Penta El Zero Miedo, Kyle O'Reilly, and, on separate occasions, all three members of House of Black. As and when Adam Copeland does make his AEW return, it remains to be seen whether he'll be focussed on the TNT Title that he was stripped of, or whether he may instead opt to turn his attention to the AEW World Championship currently held by Jon Moxley.
During his time away from the ring, Copeland has been assisting FEMA workers and helping out after the destruction caused in Asheville, North Carolina by Hurricane Helene. It's worth noting that the upcoming Fight for the Fallen episode of AEW Dynamite on 1 January takes place from Asheville, which could nicely set the stage for Copeland to make his return to AEW TV in the state he and his family these days calls home.
