While Jon Moxley still rules the roost as the AEW World Champion, Mox's Death Riders group will be travelling a little lighter from here on out.

Last night's AEW Dynamite Spring BreakThru special saw the Death Riders lose the AEW Trios Championships to Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and... Powerhouse Hobbs.

Much like Moxley was filling in alongside Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta due to Pac being injured, Hobbs was a late replacement for Hook. Earlier in the night, it was announced that Hook was unable to compete due to an attack by the Death Riders. Of course, many fans were concerned when the Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil was seen vomitting in the ring on last week's Dynamite, with some speculating he'd suffered a concussion. On that front, Dave Meltzer reported that Hook had not suffered a concussion. Regardless, the 25-year-old second-generation star was pulled from this week's Dynamite. And so, Powerhouse Hobbs - who's had his own problems with the Death Riders - stepped up to team with Joe and Shibata.

As for the match itself, there was involvement from Marina Shafir, the Young Bucks, Swerve Strickland, and Willow Nightingale, before the finish had Jon Moxley as the one to be choked out by Samoa Joe and his Coquina Clutch. Post-match, a slew of AEW babyfaces came out to celebrate, including Will Ospreay, 'Speedball' Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight.

What's Next For The Death Riders?

It's not been a good couple of weeks for the Death Riders, with Pac suffering what appeared to be a foot/ankle injury last week, and now the group losing the AEW Trios Titles.

Arguably even more significant than the Death Riders' title loss, though, is the fact that not only was it Samoa Joe to get the victory, but that it was Jon Moxley who lost the match. While the winner of the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament gets them a shot at the AEW World Title at All In this July, this Spring BreakThru finish would suggest that Samoa Joe will be next in line to challenge Mox for the AEW World Championship in the meantime.

Of course, Joe is no stranger to that prize, having been the AEW World Champion for 113 days after defeating MJF for that belt at Worlds End 2023. The Samoan Submission Machine would successfully defend the AEW World Title three times before losing it to Swerve Strickland at Dynasty 2024 last April - and now, he may well find himself with another chance to become a two-time AEW World Champion at some point in the coming weeks.

For the wider Dath Riders faction, it remains to be seen whether they'll be focussed on reclaiming the AEW Trios Titles, and it also remains to be seen just how serious the injury to Pac is.
