A 'neutral source' has provided an update on the CM Punk and Jack Perry incident that went down backstage at All In 2023.
With numerous different reports being dropped about AEW's latest chunk of high-profile backstage drama in the time since the company's epic Wembley PPV, the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided yet another update from a source who reportedly witnessed the altercation go down.
According to this 'neutral source', Punk went "nose-to-nose" with Perry as the latter came back through the curtain after his match with Hook. And in the wake of being asked if the one-time Jungle Boy "had a problem" with 'The Best in the World', this source noted how Perry replied by stating that his "cry me a river" glass comment in the match was simply a way to get heat as a heel.
This led to Punk shoving the younger star. Perry would then respond by getting in the "Real" World Champion's face, with it then being claimed by this source that Punk actually sucker punched the former FTW Champion and went to lock in a choke.
Folks nearby would quickly break up the scrap, and Tony Khan was even said to have yelled at Punk to let Jack go.
Punk then reportedly "lunged" in his boss' direction, but was held back by a number of individuals in the area before shouting "I quit". Monitors were allegedly knocked down and Samoa Joe, despite being upset about the situation, was responsible for calming Punk down.
Far from ruining the show for the rest of the locker room, though, news of the pair's backstage clash only motivated the rest of the talent to put on great matches, with one person commenting that "It kind of brought everyone together and Samoa Joe was a real leader."
At time of writing it isn't known whether Punk will be part of this Sunday's All Out PPV. However, Tony Khan did reveal in his recent media call (via F4WOnline) that he would provide fans with an update as soon as possible.
