NJPW G1 Climax 2019 Night 4 (July 15) - B BLOCK: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Tomohiro Ishii Vs Jay White

Tomohiro Ishii Jay White
NJPW

Tomohiro Ishii is the quintessential G1 Climax wrestler.

Over the years, his selling style has afforded not just the great and good their best tournament offerings (and in many cases, match-of-the-year candidates) but also the rank-and-files an opportunity to tighten their working boots and tighten the f*ck up in some end-of-the-world wars. The 'Stone Pitbull' is a killing machine, but is himself penetrable, in spite of the incredible guts and guile he puts forth.

Jay White, the absolute sh*thouse, had clear belief that he could crack the shell to claim his first two points. He was wrong, but it was fascinating to watch him employ traps and a few tricks in a character-building battle against the Chaos man.

Going through the gears, the slow start saw White lead with his anti-fight cynicism before he appeared to surprise himself with just how much ground he could gain against the veteran. By the end of the clash, the two had somehow arrived at the end of every Ishii clash - hope, fear and near-f*cking-death.

As Gedo panicked on the floor, White seemingly survived every onslaught and nearly dropped him with a match-winning Blade Runner until he nearly lost the head off his shoulders with a lariat. A vertical drop brainbuster was it for 'Switchblade', but not for the want of White actually trying. His arrogance was earned despite his current empty well - it'll serve his pr*ck heel act well, too.
