One MIND-BLOWING Secret For Every WWE SummerSlam

19. 2007 | Vince McMahon Vs. WHO?!

Mr McMahon Royal Rumble
WWE

It feels gross putting him over in 2026, but the best Mr. McMahon matches were phenomenal entertainment value. He was as over as any WWE performer ever, and as a heel, his facial expressions were priceless. He was superb at twisting his face into a nasty scowl, and was even better at registering the moment he knew he was in deep sh*t. He was the least athletic big name “wrestler” ever, but he compensated for that by taking absolutely stupid bumps and gruesome weapon shots. The black comedy > slapstick comeuppance formula was near-perfect, and, if the June 11, 2007 issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is to be believed, Mr. McMahon almost squared off against the opponent you never realised was near-perfect. At SummerSlam 2007, McMahon was meant to wrestle Rey Mysterio.

This event was the site of Mysterio’s big return from knee surgery, so it’s not that far-fetched (even though his actual televised comeback match ended up in a predictable revenge plot scenario against Chavo Guerrero).

Rey Vs. Mr. McMahon would have been wild. Vince would have been terrific at tearing apart Rey’s mask, with that malicious expression on his face. Then again, he might have worn one of his own in the storyline build to generate some xenophobic heat, so swings and roundabouts. Rey, one of the best in-ring babyfaces in history, would have made Vince’s own weapon shots look like crimes

McMahon was always great at selling concussed confusion. The sight of him dangling over the middle rope, vulnerable to the 619, would have made for quite the moment.
