Brock Lesnar vs. Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship is probably headlining Friday's episode of SmackDown.

Correction: Brock Lesnar beating Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship is probably headlining Friday's episode of SmackDown.

Anything else seems unfathomable at this point. It's the first show on the biggest TV contract in wrestling history and a brand that WWE want to present as a big deal, with reports suggesting a sports-centric product. Brock Lesnar is their biggest male singles star, so of course they'd have him take the big belt on night one, claiming Kofi's scalp in what could be a barnburner.

Kingston can go out with his held high. The man has worked extremely hard throughout his reign (and his whole career, for that matter) despite uninspiring opposition, and WWE have successfully put him over as a strong, fighting champion who backs down from nothing. It's unfortunate, then, that Kofi's diminishing crowd reactions prove, without question, that his reign has run out of steam. Live crowds aren't half as invested in this situation as they were early on. That isn't the New Day man's fault, but it's definitely time to draw a line under it.
