Ranking Every AEW World Championship Match From Worst To Best
7. Chris Jericho Vs. Darby Allin (Dynamite #3)
What separates Darby Allin's World Championship challenge against Chris Jericho from his challenge against Jon Moxley is that Jericho had to go one step closer to get one over on Allin. He had to bring out 'The Painmaker' gimmick, clarting his face with makeup, akin to Darby doing so to himself.
Again, like at Revolution, it's the little things that really bring a match together.
Having the bout contested as a Street Fight also did wonders to both men. There's no denying Jericho's ageing body is decreasing his in-ring ability, which can hide behind an unsanctioned fight, while Allin works tremendously well in this sort of environment. At one stage, Allin even found himself with his arms tied behind his back, which only improved his offence. A Tope con Hilo without using your arms for momentum? Bah gawd.
Jake Hager's interference at the end of the bout could have gone undone, as the story was there to deliver a convincing Jericho victory regardless. After all, he had essentially placed a handicap on his challenger for the night. Despite that, the match delivered in more ways than one.
For the first official World Championship defence, and especially for the first World Championship match on a Dynamite episode, all the boxes were ticked.
