Ranking Every NXT Women's Champion Ranked - From Worst To Best

2. Bayley

Triple H Bayley NXT TakeOver Respect

Whilst Bayley's NXT Women's Championship reign wasn't helped by her fellow Horsewomen all heading off to the main roster, thus leaving her with little in the way of credible challengers, such is the vulnerability of Bayley's character that all of the developing females around her got a rub by her being champion.

All of a sudden, performers like Alexa Bliss and Carmella seemed like genuine title contenders. This isn't a knock on the perception of Bayley, more an acknowledgement that she wasn't entirely invincible. In this regard Bayley was the anti-Asuka, and a champion's matches are only truly interesting if the audience believes the champion can lose. Dominance is boring, vulnerability is not.

Bayley defended her title against Bliss, Carmella, and Nia Jax, but it was her successful defence against Eva Marie that truly summed up her championship reign. This was Eva Marie, objectively the worst wrestler on the entire roster, yet Bayley worked her butt off to create an environment in which the audience believed she could lose. It was a great performance by a fantastic champion-in-peril.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
