Title: World Heavyweight Championship

Match Time: 15:39

Edge really was a great heel.

The Rated-R Superstar and Batista were on fire in 2007. Both of them at the peak of their character work and match quality. Alongside The Undertaker, the trio were carrying an incredible two-year run at the top of the SmackDown card.

This feud was played to near-perfection.

The Ultimate Opportunist was the sly, manipulative heel who could writhe his way out of anything, and Batista was the powerhouse babyface looking to free the fans of their Edge burden and give the Rated-R Superstar his comeuppance.

Edge managed to duck and weave his way out of trouble at Judgment Day one month prior against The Animal, sneaking in a rollup win and scurrying away with his title in tact. This time, there would be no way out of a steel cage.

Batista spent the entire match really just trying to get his hands on Edge, only for the later to land a quick counter and scurry away out of The Animal’s grasp.

Edge portrayed the right amount of fear and Batista portrayed the right amount of frustration.

Their contrasting story arcs within the same match was balanced fantastically, all the way to the finish, where Edge was able to reverse a Batista Bomb and wriggle has way onto the cage and climb his way out.
