Having taken out the likes of Jake Roberts, Mick Foley, Ric Flair and, um, the Fabulous Moolah, Randy Orton’s Legend Killer shtick set him on a collision course with The Undertaker for WrestleMania 21.

Faced with the challenge of becoming the first man to beat ‘Taker at the biggest show of the year, Orton came close to doing just that. Or, at least, closer than most would come for a few years.

In a hard-hitting affair, Orton hung with ‘Taker every step of the way, even outfoxing the veteran by first reversing a Dragon Sleeper into a DDT, before brilliantly countering a Chokeslam into an improvised RKO. Arguably a little too big for his britches, that RKO led to Orton trying to steal ‘Taker’s own move with a Tombstone attempt, only for the more experience Undertaker to reverse it into a Tombstone of his own before securing the 1-2-3.

While WrestleMania 21 was headlined by Batista and John Cena’s maiden world title wins, Orton was arguably the true breakout star, overshadowing his fellow OVW graduates with a performance to savour against an icon of the company, in just his second WrestleMania outing.
