The first WWWF Champion was a dealbreaker for Vince McMahon Sr when he split from the National Wrestling Alliance.

'The Nature Boy' was just about finished as a headline attraction, but McMahon deemed him crucial for the establishing of the wrestler who'd become most synonymous with his territory in the decades that followed. Rogers put Bruno Sammartino over after just 22 days as the recognised title holder.
