8. Daniel Bryan And AJ Lee
Raw 1000 had a big hook of a CM Punk/John Cena main event with Cena cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. However, the bigger draw for many fans was the marriage of Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee. The two were among the most popular talents in the company at the time, and the angle featured the end of the popular love rectangle storyline featuring Lee, Bryan, CM Punk and Kane.
In the end, it appeared that Bryan won out and he would marry “crazy chick” AJ, and they would live out the rest of their lives together. Unfortunately, the marriage never became official.
The ceremony got off to a fun start with Slick coming back into company for the night as their minister. The happy couple then had a relatively normal ceremony until AJ revealed that when she said “I do”, it was actually for someone else. Vince McMahon walked out to a huge pop, but then he quickly revealed that he wasn’t having an affair with her, and had actually offered her the job of General Manager of Raw. Damn.
That angle may have actually been more fun (probably a bit gross as well), but AJ as GM overexposed her character to the point where she was never quite the same afterwards. The wedding was pretty good, but ended up being a bit of a disappointment as the big surprise just wasn’t as fun as all of the stuff that lead up to it.
