As fans, we are sometimes guilty of not seeing the bigger picture. The stage was set for Cody Rhodes to 'finish the story' and finally win the WWE Championship from Roman Reigns, but this was ignoring that there was plenty of juice left in The Bloodline saga. Fans had been similarly disappointed at that year's Royal Rumble, when everybody thought Sami Zayn deserved to win the title from Roman. Instead, Roman rose to victory and took his title to WrestleMania.

This was an emotionally charged occasion, with fans fully behind Cody and his incredible long-term story. The prodigal son had returned to WWE, after proving himself to be one of the best storytellers in wrestling, on a mission to finish his father's work and win the WWE Championship that had always evaded his family. Roman Reigns was on the most dominant championship run of this generation, determined to not relinquish the power that had cemented his own family tree as wrestling's most successful dynasty.

The night would be won by Reigns, with his cousin Solo Sikoa rising to the occasion to hit Cody with the Samoan Spike and enable Reigns to retain his title. Fans in the stadium and around the world were furious, but this masterstroke led to another year of fantastic Bloodline stories and ended in one of the greatest nights in WWE history the following year.
