Ranking Reddit's 10 Most INSANE Wrestling Conspiracy Theories

Reddit is social media's most notorious wasteland. A heady mix of useful advice and the most toxic views on the whole of the internet, it has become a mecca for people to congregate and post unhinged conspiracies across all walks of life and pop culture. Lucky for us all, this extends to the world of pro wrestling, giving us a look at the public's conspiracy theories that are interesting and insane in equal measure.

We at WhatCulture have combed the platform to find a heady mix of Reddit wrestling conspiracies. These range from the implausible to those that make so much sense, they're enough to make you put on a tin foil hat and swear to your screen that they must be true. Seriously, some of these are so good that we've convinced ourselves that they must be true.

From The Attitude Era, WCW, and Shawn Michaels to AEW, Larry the Dog, and Dave Meltzer, and from Vince Russo to TKO, the following are some of Reddit's most insane wrestling conspiracy theories that we have pored over to mark them out of ten, determining how believable we think they are. The truth is out there.

Reddit has a reputation for being the meanest and most mental corner of social media, with good reason. Starting this list with a nuclear bomb, the scoundrels of the platform have long speculated that a trio of WWE's biggest names were suspects behind the leaking of Vince McMahon's abhorrent Janel Grant scandal, each with a lot to gain from the maniacal billionaire's removal.

The chief culprit is Nick Khan, who joined WWE as President and Chief Revenue Officer in August 2020, but was promoted to Co-CEO when McMahon resigned in July 2022. McMahon returned to the company in January 2023, but was removed permanently in January 2024 when the details of the Janel Grant case leaked to the public, leaving Nick Khan as WWE's new, undisputed big cheese. 

The second suspect is Vince's own daughter, Stephanie McMahon. Steph resigned from WWE in January 2023 when her father returned, but returned to our screens at WrestleMania 40, just a few months after Vince was out of the company for good. She has since hosted the WWE-produced TV show, Stephanie's Places, has gone into the WWE Hall of Fame, and hosts the WWE podcast, 'What's Your Story?'. Since Vince's scandal has played out in public, Steph is kinda seen as the McMahon it's OK to like.

Third on the suspects list is the man now seen as WWE's oracle, Paul Levesque. This one feels self-explanatory, but watch any episode of WWE Unreal, and it paints Levesque as wrestling's most important man. In the way that WWE was once seen as Vince McMahon's brainchild, now it's the former Triple H who is seen as the most powerful man in pro wrestling when it comes to talent and storylines.

All three of these have benefited from Vince McMahon's downfall, but to point at anything but the heinous actions of a man drunk with power and deviant intent feels ridiculous. The Grant case's details were made public by the US court system, and blaming any of these three people for being responsible for the public's response to Vince's behavior feels like redirecting where the focus of that story should be.
