Repackaging WWE Survivor Series 1987
2. The Wonder Warriors Versus The Brain Trust
'Mr. Wonderful' Paul Orndorff (captain), The Ultimate Warrior and The Young Stallions versus 'Ravishing' Rick Rude (captain), Hercules and The Islanders (with Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan).
Despite being on the run of his career while feuding with WWF Champion Hulk Hogan (and being the WrestleMania III back-up plan had André The Giant been unable to compete), a serious arm injury eventually shelved 'Mr. Wonderful' Paul Orndorff. Slightly more than month after his return, a new addition to The Heenan Family arrived in 'Ravishing' Rick Rude. Convinced he was being replaced, Orndorff showed 'The Brain' to the door (again) and commenced a feud with The Family's newest charge.
Instead of Rude and Orndorff getting lost in the shuffle behind The Giant and The Hulkster respectively, they command their own teams here. There can never be too much Bobby Heenan and having him helm not one, but two squads at Survivor Series can ensure that. The Ravishing One recruits stablemates The Islanders ahead of their impending feud with The Stallions, while Orndorff calls in The Warrior as a ringer against Hercules.
While it would be nine months before WWF strapped the rocket to his back in earnest, this version of the PPV would serve as Warrior's coming out party. When a Rude Awakening to Orndorff puts his team down 3-1, Warrior blazes back and systematically dismantles Haku with a flying shoulder tackle, then Hercules with a Warrior Splash before Rude heads for the hills after a Gorilla Press Slam.
