Report: WWE Has "Never Really Cared" About This Neglected Championship (WWE News)

WWE's Women's United States Title problem.

While Becky Lynch is currently doing wonders with the Women's Intercontinental Championship over on Raw, it's not quite the same for WWE's other secondary women's title, the Women's United States Championship.

It's now approaching one year since WWE introduced both of those titles, and the two have had vastly different years. For the Women's Intercontinental Championship, Lyra Valkyria was the inaugural champion, defeating Dakota Kai on the January 13 edition of Raw in the final of a tournament that kicked off last December. Valkyria had an extremely solid 144-day reign with that prize before then losing it to Becky Lynch at Money in the Bank this summer, and the sheer star power of Lynch has meant the Women's IC Title has been viewed with a certain amount of prestige in recent months.

Over on SmackDown, though, it's been a different story for the Women's United States Championship, particularly once Chelsea Green lost that title back in April. The inaugural Women's United States Champion, Green's charisma and entertainment value meant that there was at least some interest in the title back then, but the title seemed to become somewhat of an afterthought once Chelsea dropped it to Zelina Vega, and even more so once Zelina dropped it to Giulia.

When asked about the booking of Giulia during the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp noted how WWE "never had a plan nor really cared" about the Women's United States Title. SRS mentioned how the decision to introduce that belt was a "hastily made" one due to Chelsea Green and Michin having "a banger of a feud without a title" at a time when there were no plans for either of the two to be in the mix for one of the existing women's titles. So, WWE opted to introduce the Women's United States Championship "with no significant creative plans."

Of course, this past week's SmackDown saw Giulia lose the title to Chelsea Green, in turn making Chelsea not just a two-time Women's United States Champion, but also a double-champ to go along with the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles she recently won with Ethan Page.

As for Giulia, Bodyslam.net reports that there had been plans for the Beautiful Madness to be used higher up the card, and that could be part of the reason why she lost the Women's United States Title.
