Sting: 9 Memorable WCW World Title Matches You Need To See

In early 1999, signs of danger were beginning to appear in WCW. Having been injured since October of 1998, Sting's return in March '99 was a reason to celebrate if you were a WCW fan. Immediately, he began dominating the competition, and received a title match against Diamond Dallas Page on Nitro in April.

While Sting and Page had wrestled previously, this version of DDP was now a World Title level performer. Although his peak was brief, Page was as good as anyone from late 1998, to mid-1999. In matching him with Sting who was already at legendary status, we were treated to one of Nitro's best ever title matches. 

Starting during each man's entrance, the commentary team rightfully predicted we would see a hell of a match. Page's heel antics were at their zenith, as he cursed out audience members at random, and talked trash relentlessly to Sting. The last 6 minutes of this match are an exercise in trading big moves like Seated Powerbombs and Reverse Tombstone Piledrivers, in addition to reeling in an audience with awesome near falls.

The finish came out of nowhere as well when Sting surprised Page with the Scorpion Death Drop. However, WCW would undo the moment by making Sting lose the title later that night in a Fatal 4-Way match. His reign ended up lasting a total of ninety minutes.
