9. Will His Southern Fan-base Disown Him?
From the Georgia based WCW to the Tennessee head quarters of TNA, Sting has been a mainstay of the proud southern state culture. While his name is nationally known, it has consistently found its success off the back of the specific region and the supposed section of fans who transferred from WCW to TNA. Yes, WWE now run the south regularly and have their own operations down there, but there will be some hardcore southern wrestling fans who will feel disappointed Sting has went north. The viewpoint is understandable, in many ways it would be cool for Sting to get through his entire career without ever taking a penny from Vince McMahon. That's the way things stand right now and it's part of what makes the Stinger so distinguished. To say at the end of the day you went through your career as your own man is something special. Instead, a WWE deal will inevitably repackage Sting as their version of a legend and he will become a WWE Hall of Famer as opposed to standing on his own as a unique icon. Many southern fans will see this as another attempt by WWE to repackage WCW's legacy and possibly even bury the Sting character. There'll be those fans who feel it a shame Sting went so long without ever going to WWE only to jump into bed with the devil right at the end.
