SummerSlam By The Numbers WWE DON'T Want You To Remember
1. Zero
Zero: that's exactly the number of fans who will populate Orlando's Amway Center at this year's SummerSlam.
Let this not be confused for a grumble; absolutely no way should crowds of any number, great or small, be flocking into an indoor arena, particularly for an event which in the grand scheme of things couldn't matter less. But the upcoming pay-per-view was the very one WWE had earmarked for the American public's grand return to sporting venues - with the company hoping to claim credit for being the first.
Indeed, there was even talk of Vince McMahon delaying the show until his ambitions could be met. As the situation continued to escalate, the prospect became less and less realistic beyond maybe hosting SummerSlam 2020 in the chilly midst of next February. Besides which, WWE have already been beaten to the punch - fans, albeit limited, have began attending Dynamite.
The odds were never assailable, but in Vince's eyes it'll be considered failure. That's why SummerSlam 2020 will air with virtual fans from the 'ThunderDome'. If it's anything like AWA's Team Challenge Series, that's fine with us.
