The 8 Faces Of Kenny Omega
6. Sparky Junior Heavyweight
Separate from the success Omega enjoyed as part of The Golden Lovers, his run as a sparky upcoming Junior heavyweight singles competitor was faltering. Two disappointing Best of the Super Juniors runs and unsuccessful attempts at singles success left Kenny's stock diminished.
Without Kota by his side, Kenny's athleticism was hamstrung by his often erratic decisions in his matches. Often, Kenny would be caught attempting flashy moves when he should have gone for the kill. The astonishing athleticism that made him and Kota gel was failing Kenny as a singles star. Even physically Kenny looked diminished, almost plain, without Ibushi by his side.
Kenny looked like a bright, athletic wrestler, with a great future... perhaps. The majority of eyes were locked on Ibushi and Kenny's failings as a singles star seemed to only confirm the belief that Ibushi was the star of the pairing. This would be proven after another mediocre run in the BOSJ in 2011 and Omega was not seen again in New Japan until 2013.
2013 saw Omega have a better run at the BOSJ, reaching the semi finals until his tournament was brought to a close at the hands of Prince Devitt via Bullet Club shenanigans. Again, Kenny would not feature as a singles wrestler until BOSJ 2014 where he finished with a 3-4 record and was beaten out of a semi final place by Taichi.
