26. WrestleMania X: Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart

The match between Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, and a ladder may be the best remembered clash, but the opening encounter of WrestleMania X stands the test of time better. Owen, cruelly under-utilised, and Bret, in his ascendency, had every intention of showing the world what the Hart family was made of, and they achieved this with gusto.

The match is replete with technical brilliance as you’d expect from two graduates of Stu Hart’s dungeon (and loins), but the two get the match over as a hard hitting fight, too. The storyline building up to the bout was convoluted, but at its core was a simple concept: brother vs brother.

Which one was best?

Well, as it turned out, it was Owen. The younger Hart gets the drop on his brother with a crafty roll up, and puts one over on the man who was about to become the face of the company. Bret would go on to lift the big belt after an underwhelming headline clash with Yokozuna, but it’s his all out, highly physical match with the late great Owen Hart that elevates this Wrestlemania.
