"The Last Few Months Weren't Ideal For Me, I Lost To Cody Rhodes & That Feud With Priest" - Gunther (WWE News)
Reigning World Heavyweight Champion says WWE booking didn't let him shine.

Reigning World Heavyweight Champion and all round pro wrestling machine Gunther has told the Daily Mail that you haven't seen the best he has to offer lately. Specifically, the Raw kingpin pointed to a loss at Crown Jewel to Cody Rhodes "then that feud with [Damian] Priest" as examples of what he's talking about.
"It didn't allow me to show the best side of me, if that makes sense", he added.
Now, however, Gunther says he's "back to [his] old self" and can "feel [his] mojo again". That'll be music to the ears of anybody who agrees with him that WWE's recent booking has been a bit of a letdown for the the celebrated World Champ. Before dropping to Cody over in Saudi Arabia, Gunther had won the belt from Priest at SummerSlam then successfully defended it against Randy Orton at Bash In Berlin.
WWE appears to have changed Gunther's presentation from stoic and fearsome grappling God to somebody who lets opponents get inside his head before major matches. Naturally, characters have to evolve and change over time, but this tweak doesn't seem to be suiting the 'Ring General' as much as his prior dominance did - it's taking some getting used to.
Regardless, Gunther has just smashed through the 200-day barrier during his current title reign, and he has something special to look forward to at WrestleMania 41.
Gunther Set For WrestleMania 41 Showdown With Jey Uso

Jey Uso's surprise 2025 Royal Rumble win put him in the frame to challenge Gunther for the gold at 'Mania 41 in Las Vegas this April. WWE teased Uso going after Cody Rhodes, but that was an obvious red herring designed to push the idea that Rumble winners can do as they please.
He was always coming for Gunther, and there's a strong chance the current incumbent's title reign will end in less than two months. Uso bagging the World Heavyweight Championship then celebrating with thousands of 'YEET-ing' fans in Vegas sounds like a moment Triple H won't want to pass up, but it does raise another question: What's next for Gunther after WrestleMania?
The big Austrian might have to slide down the card slightly. He's certainly good enough to offset any creative indifference, because Hunter will know Gunther guarantees quality every single time he steps foot inside a WWE ring. That said, one need only look at apparent frustrations with Drew McIntyre to see that placating top tier stars is a constant headache for the boss.
Gunther might not enjoy becoming a bit part player after years of being featured as a dominant act on TV. He perhaps summed it up best during his chat with the Daily Mail by saying: "I don't think the last few months were ideal for me".
