All 5 Wrestlers Who Defeated Sting Clean On TNA PPV

5. Mick Foley (Lockdown 2009)

Alright, so Mick Foley wasn't much of a "star on the rise" when he feuded with Sting during the first half of 2009. Technically, he had already been retired from in-ring competition for close to a decade, but that didn't stop TNA from putting their world title on him at the Lockdown pay-per-view. The premise of his match with Sting, who had been on a tear as champion for the six months prior, was whether he still had it in him to win "the big one." He and The Icon had never had much interaction prior to their rivalry, so while it was an unprecedented program, the idea of putting two wrestlers past their prime in the ring together was mind-boggling. Nevertheless, they contested a better-than-expected bout that took place within the confines of a steel cage, as per the Lockdown theme. They even incorporated a wide variety of weapons, including garbage cans and barbed-wire baseball bats that Foley used to his advantage. Yes, he relied on weapons to defeat Sting, but given that it was a match that called for extreme measures, it was clean in a sense. There wasn't interference from the TNA Frontline, the Main Event Mafia, or anyone. Foley ascended over the side of the steel structure and fell down to the ground below to clinch his first and only TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
