The Real Reason Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar Will Never Happen
The fantasy match may stay just that, a fantasy.
Daniel Bryan is back wrestling week-in and week-out and all is right in the world again. However, as with all things WWE, we can't have nice things for very long.
In an interview with SPORTBible, Bryan has revealed he is desperate to face Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, but he also explained why it may never happen:-
I've been wanting to wrestle Brock for years, when I came back from my neck surgery in 2015 it was the match I wanted. I'm sure Brock doesn't want it, he doesn't care.
Regardless of Bryan's eagerness or Lesnar's nonchalance, it doesn't look like this match will take place soon if ever. They're on separate brands, Lesnar wrestles once every blue moon, and Bryan needs to be cautious in his return to the ring rather than being thrown around like an empty tracksuit. Nevertheless, it is a match WWE will try their hardest to make down the line - Brock's match against AJ Styles (another diminutive opponent) was his best of 2017 and if you want a match where Bryan would personify an underdog, it's against a former UFC Heavyweight Champion.
One possible reason why Lesnar isn't as willing to go up against Bryan is his constantly rumoured return to the UFC. You have to assume that ahead of his much-hyped return to the Octagon he wouldn't want to be seen tapping out to a kneebar (the submission move which defeated him on his UFC debut) from a man half his size.
Don't get too downhearted though, it's not the only dream match Daniel Bryan is keen on too, he also mentioned wanting to face Roman Reigns (who recently said Bryan is the only wrestler he's willing to turn heel for), Shinsuke Nakamura, Andrade Cien Almas and Samoa Joe (who he'll meet in a Money in the Bank qualifying match next week on SmackDown LIVE). Bryan concluded saying:-
A lot of my friends from the independents are now here in the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. I think that's the coolest.
