WWE: Top 10 Kings Of The Ring

7. Bret "Hitman" Hart

The only two-time WWF King of the Ring- having won the last house-show tournament in 1991, and the first King of the Ring tournament on pay-per-view in 1993- is Bret "The Hitman" Hart. The Hitman won his first crown after defeating Pete Doherty (subbing for Kerry von Erich), Skinner, and Irwin R. Schyster in the finals. On pay-per-view in 1993, Hart defeated Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect (in possibly the best match in the King of the Ring tournament's history), and Bam Bam Bigelow in the finals of the first "official" King of the Ring. Hart's second reign as king came just two months and nine days after dropping the WWF World Title in controversial fashion to Yokozuna at WrestleMania IX (who in turn lost it less than two minutes later to Hulk Hogan.) The King of the Ring victory was supposed to set-up a pathway to a Hart/Hogan title match at SummerSlam; instead, Hogan lost the title back to Yokozuna at KotR'93, left WWF shortly after, and Hart was attacked by Jerry "The King" Lawler during the coronation. The attack by the "Burger King" led to a match at SummerSlam 1993 between Lawler and Hart to crown the real King of the WWF; Bret lost by DQ when he refused to release Lawler from the Sharpshooter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl_w-Gn17n8 Winning the first King of the Ring on pay-per-view was a nice pat-on-the-back for the Hitman, but in 1993 there was only one title he deserved to wear; the WWF World Championship. Despite never getting the chance to face Hulk Hogan in the WWF, Hart would win the title back from Yokozuna at WrestleMania X, and kept it around his waist through that year's Survivor Series. In all, Hitman would hold the WWF World Title five times, with four of those reigns coming after his second King of the Ring victory.
