At the 1994 Royal Rumble, "The Rocket" Owen Hart turned on his partner and brother Bret "Hitman" Hart" after growing tired of living in his older-brother's shadow. Owen would defeat Bret in the opening contest of WrestleMania X, but later that night Bret went ahead and won the WWF World Title in the main event; Owen had been over-shadowed by his brother again. Determined to surpass his brother's accomplishments, Owen entered the 1994 King of the Ring tournament- like Bret had done in 1993- and defeated Tatanka in the opening round, and the 1-2-3 Kid in the semi-finals, before facing Razor Ramon in the finals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx7V46lqJZs For the second straight year, Ramon was defeated by a Hart brother, as Owen- with some assistance from brother-in-law Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, defeated The Bad Guy to win the crown. During the coronation, Owen decreed that he wished to be known as "The King of Harts" from that day forward, embracing the crown, the title, and was finally seen by many outside the "Hart Family" shadow. He failed to defeat Bret for the WWF World Title throughout the summer of '94, but was instrumental in Bret dropping the title to Bob Backlund at the Survivor Series. Owen won the Tag Team Titles with new partner Yokozuna at WrestleMania XI, and eventually added Intercontinental and European title reigns to his collection. While it was his victory over Bret at WrestleMania X that made the wrestling world take notice, it was his King of the Ring victory in 1994 that solidified him as a solid worker and character in WWF for the next five years, until his untimely and tragic death in 1999.
