The Untold Truth About WCW Champion David Arquette

A quick backstory for those that haven't undergone the oxymoronic experience of enjoying WCW's output from 2000 on the WWE Network, or simply not revisited some of the biggest moments from the organisation through a prism other than far-from-impartial documentary series' or history as written by the winners and highest-paid losers.

The April 26th 2000 Thunder started much like half of the product did back then. Clips of another wild Nitro two days earlier focus on hummers and contracts and divorce and calling Hulk Hogan "Terry", but also show special guest star David Arquette rather comically getting in the mix whilst on the promo junket for WCW tie-in movie (and objective turkey) Ready To Rumble. In keeping with how these things often go, the mainstream visitor sides with a babyface to p*ss off the heels. In typically WCW fashion, this is escalated to an absurd degree.

Sticking up for newfound friend Diamond Dallas Page, Arquette finds himself in an actual match against Eric Bischoff, with the stipulation set that DDP would get a shot at Jeff Jarrett's WCW Championship if he could win. The contest was mostly comedy, but the heroes prevailed. It being WCW, the shot took place that night, and Page scooped his third reign in the company's 10th title trade of the year. It was April.

Much of the same pyro and ballyhoo (two eyes emoji) kicked off on Thunder to craft a tag match between the respective goodies and baddies with Page's newly-won strap on the line. The winning pin struck gold for the victory, but as the referee's hand slapped the mat for three, it was clear the company should have just kept digging.
