The WORST Moment From Every WWE WrestleMania

18. The ECW Title = Afterthought! (WrestleMania XXIV)

Kane Chavo Guerrero

'Mania XXIV "retired" Ric Flair with a heart-wrenching bout vs. Shawn Michaels, and it saw the likes of CM Punk arrive on the map as somebody WWE planned to take seriously (for a while). Those were undercard highlights. Chavo Guerrero losing the ECW Title to Kane in a mere 11 seconds defo wasn't. If anything, it'd be a lowlight.

The 'Big Red Machine' had won a 24-man Battle Royal on the pre-show to earn his title shot. In total, Kane worked 2 matches across as a grand total of 6 minutes, so it was an easy night's work for him. However, his win proved to be the latest stain on the once proud ECW belt, and it was further proof that the McMahons were never going to take the thing seriously.

It was the European Title slapped with Paul Heyman branding. Sorry, but it's true.

A year prior, ECW had received some lustre at 'Mania 21 by putting hardcore favourites up against WWE's 'New Breed'. That wasn't perfect by any means, but it was better than this Chavo vs. Kane guff. Watching the ref hold both arms in the air during Kane's chokeslam almost made it seem like he was chuffed that Guerrero was dropping the strap too. It was weird.

If you're being charitable, you might suggest that 11 seconds is nothing to worry about on a bloated 'Mania supershow. Every second counts though, and all 11 of the ones on tap during the ECW segment tanked. Kane had no business being on ECW, and he was another example of Vince's apparent need to nullify the legacy of Heyman's operation.
