The WORST Wrestling Moment Every Year (1989 - 2025)
21. 2005 | Dr. Heiney
Jim Ross underwent colon surgery in 2005. This was a very serious and scary medical procedure. Virtually every other boss on the planet, even if they didn’t care and were only doing it for the optics, would have extended Ross their well wishes.
Vince McMahon parodied the ordeal in a comedy segment on international television.
It was awful. Rancid, gurgling sound effects of flatulence played over the footage, the only joke in which was “Vince pulls various objects of increasing size from a dummy purporting to be JR’s anus”. Stood next to Vince, portraying ‘Dr. Heiny’, was a busty blonde nurse. At this point in his career - and this has aged dismally - it was practically mandated that a twentysomething woman with large breasts accompany Vince at all times.
Even if there was an audience for this, there was no merit to it. The material was simply too mean-spirited and unfunny. The joke was not crafted. It wasn’t even a sophisticated attempt at a crude joke. Everything about it was awful. Even if this skit was produced to poke fun at a heel in some entirely fabricated scenario, it would win Worst Moment.
JR was not a heel; he was the beloved voice of WWE, the future of which he safeguarded with his razor-sharp recruitment and recommendations. The Rock, Kurt Angle, John Cena, Brock Lesnar: they don’t enter WWE if Ross isn’t there first.
In many ways, AEW is a unicorn of a promotion that has no right to exist; in others, it’s a disgrace that something like it took that long to show up. This was peak Vince does what he wants, f*ck you.
