This Recent WWE Title Run Was "Never Meant To Be The Plan"

WWE decided on this recent title switch and reign very last-minute, but it worked out well.

Becky Lynch has revealed that her recent WWE Women's Tag-Team Title reign alongside childhood idol Lita was "never meant" to be on the format sheets at all.

'The Man' told 'My Love Letter To Wrestling' that it came as a complete surprise when agents told her what would be happening. Becks got a thrill out of the thought, chiefly because she'd grown up wanting to be exactly like Lita.

Suddenly, she was on the booking sheets to win tag gold with her.

Lynch didn't go into details on what WWE originally had in mind for the straps before she and Lita enjoyed that month-long reign between late-February and early-April. There's been talk for a while that Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler were being lined up for a title tilt before injuries prevented WWE from going in that direction.

It's unclear whether or not Becky and Lita benefitted from anything of the sort though. They defeated Damage CTRL duo IYO SKY and Dakota Kai to win the belts, then dropped them to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez (with Trish Stratus subbing in for Lita).

None of that was in WWE's plans for the belts at the start of the year.
