TNA's 10 Craziest Matches

3. Reverse Battle Royal

Battle royals are one of wrestling’s most common stipulations. But I think we can all agree that about 10 years ago the world was suffering badly from some serious battle royal fatigue. Someone out there, someone brave, badly needed to make the battle royal great again. Thankfully someone in TNA creative had the guts to do it. Bet you can’t guess who!

We were gifted with the Reverse Battle Royal. Actually, gifted doesn't feel fair to say. Perhaps s**t on with the Reverse Battle Royal?

The rules you ask? Well, it's a match which saw all of the competitors standing outside the ring to start. The goal was then to get IN to the ring. Then, once a set amount of people were in the ring, they battle to knock their opponents OUT of the ring. They go in to go out. Now, you're likely thinking this is one of the worst ideas you've ever heard. However, it all makes perfect sense. It took me years to realize it, but the Reverse Battle Royal is a metaphor.

You see, the ring was a symbol for the link between the beginning and ending of life. The ropes were a stand in for the isolation that power creates. And the sled, Rosebud, represented lost innocence. Wait…that's Citizen Kane.

Yeah, there's nothing more to the Reverse Battle Royal. It was just a stupid idea!

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
