TNA's The Final Deletion: 8 Things You Totally Missed
3. The Four States Of Matter
Symbolism is everything in the Final Deletion, and it is irrelevant whether this comes in subtle or blunt ways. The Ancient Greeks believed that everything in existence was made up from four elements; earth, air, fire and water. Throughout the Final Deletion, the Hardy Brothers find themselves doing battle in all four.
You can take this further into other belief structures too. The Chinese Wu Xing extends this to include wood and metal (air no longer features), both of which are used within the Final Deletion. A fifth element was eventually added to the Greek system, known as Aether. This was essentially the void between the other four, and the spaces in the Final Deletion are as important as the fire and the earth, the air and the water.
The fire is particularly important. On one hand, it is a callback to the brothers' 2009 WWE feud where Matt claimed to have burned down Jeff's house. It could also be interpreted as another reference to the Roman Emperor Nero, who was rumoured to have Christians set alight and left in his garden as a source of light.
