Tony Khan Wants AEW To 'Bring Back' WCW Worldwide

AEW Dark is about to go WCW Worldwide, at least according to Tony Khan.

Tony Khan revealed during a media call that AEW Dark would begin taping from a soundstage at Universal Studios in Orlando imminently. What's more, the lower-tier broadcast will be open to park guests - this is similar to TNA's old Impact format.

Khan would prefer to liken it to WCW Worldwide at Disney though.

The AEW chief told everyone that Dark would follow the example set by WCW in the early-to-mid-90s. Basically, the show will become a place "where they develop a lot of young talent". AEW's focus will be on youth and building workers up to the level of Rampage, Dynamite and (eventually) pay-per-view.

Rather definitively, Tony said, "I want to bring back the spirit of those Worldwide tapings, which hold a very fond place in my heart". AEW's boss wears wrestling fandom on his sleeve. He rarely shies away from in-depth chatter about industry history, and admits he was a huge fan of the Worldwide concept in his younger days.

So, expect Dark to be akin to WCW's old third/four show.

Khan didn't rule out the thought of top stars appearing on Dark, but did heavily hint that fans would see the future of AEW at Universal.
