Update On Potential AEW Vs. NJPW Dream Matches

Jon Moxley vs. KENTA is up first, but what of future AEW vs. NJPW matches beyond that?

Yesterday saw the wider wrestling world outwith WWE come closer together with the announcement of AEW and NJPW's working relationship, as Japanese star KENTA invaded Dynamite to lay Jon Moxley out ahead of their IWGP United States Championship match scheduled to air later this month.

The working agreement's confirmation opened the door to all kinds of inter-promotional dream matches. Though Dave Meltzer noted upon breaking the story that the ongoing global health crisis would likely limited crossovers to New Japan wrestlers who currently live in the United States, nothing is theoretically off the table once the world goes back to something resembling normal.

Meltzer reaffirmed this in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, writing that "the door is open for any and every dream match imaginable," provided, of course, AEW and NJPW can reach an agreement on storylines, finishes, and dates.

Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega have teased reacquainting themselves in the ring over the past few days. Something like that (or getting a Kazuchika Okada or Hiroshi Tanahashi involved) may need to wait until travel restrictions ease, though the possibilities, technically, are endless. Long live the new era of collaboration.
