Test defected to the Alliance in August 2001, something that several WWE stars (including the APA) suspected him of planning to do. Following his defection, Test found championship success, winning both WCW and WWE Tag Team Titles with Booker T, before going solo and defeating Edge for the Intercontinental Championship. He dropped the IC strap back to Edge at the Invasion-ending Survivor Series PPV, but won his job back in the immunity battle royal later in the night. For much of 2002, Test continued plugging away in the Tag Title scene before joining Christian and Lance Storm to form the un-Americans. But WWE had much bigger plans for Test, who they still saw as a potential singles star. He was given a face run with Stacy Keibler as his manager, then turned heel and teamed with long-time rival Scott Steiner before he went down with a serious neck injury. WWE fired him in November 2004, while he was recovering from neck surgery. He did the indie/international thing before returning to WWE in 2006 as a member of the ECW roster. 'Roided out out of his mind, Test was a walking wellness policy violation. Indeed, he failed a wellness test and was released in early 2007. He died two years later after taking an accidental overdose of oxycodone.
