What T-Shirt Idea For AJ Styles Was Rejected By Vince McMahon?

The Boss wasn't keen on Styles' pitch.

Speaking recently on his Twitch Channel, former WWE Champion AJ Styles mentioned an idea he had for a t-shirt which was ultimately turned down by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Early into Styles' WWE career, the 'Phenomenal' performer was given the chance to work with the golden goose of the company in John Cena. The pair feuded for months and produced a number of modern masterpieces, with their battles at SummerSlam 2016 and the 2017 Royal Rumble standing out in particular.

Styles had only positive things to say about Cena when he spoke of him on the channel, explaining, 'Man, he was so much fun to work with. We did some really good stuff. He was so smooth and easy to work.'

On the topic of Cena, the SmackDown star then revealed that he did try to pitch a 'Beat Up John Cena' t-shirt at one point during their programme. This was obviously one of the more memorable takeaways from their promo back-and-forths, so Styles thought it would make the company (and himself) a little money.

Yet, McMahon clearly had other ideas. Styles admitted, 'I actually had an idea for a shirt that said, “Beat Up Cena” or something like that, but when I pitched it to Vince, he said, ‘You want me to promote a shirt rooting against my top baby face’? I just went ahead and let that one go.'

Styles may have had to let this idea go, but it didn't hurt him too much going forward as he'd go on to become one of the most marketable stars in WWE.
