Why AEW Is Suddenly Hotshotting The International Title

Orange Cassidy to Jon Moxley, Jon Moxley to Rey Fenix, Rey Fenix to Orange Cassidy...

Orange Cassidy dethroned Rey Fenix as AEW International Champion on this week's Dynamite - a move spurred by the latter's visa issues.

Fightful Select reports that whoever faced Fenix on the 10 October episode was likely going to defeat him, as visa issues are set to sideline Rey for an undetermined period of time.

Fenix, himself, won the International Championship unexpectedly, dethroning Jon Moxley on Dynamite's 20 September episode. Moxley was originally booked to go over but called an audible after suffering a concussion early in the bout.

Moxley was then scheduled to wrestle Fenix on 10 October, where he would have regained the title. Unfortunately, AEW learned that its former World Champion wasn't cleared to compete on the day of the show, leading to Cassidy taking the spot. Cassidy then defeated Fenix in under five minutes.

These recent events mean the International Title has now changed hands three times since 3 September, when Moxley bested Cassidy at All Out 2023. Orange had held the belt for 326 days prior to that.

There is currently no word on when Mox will be cleared to return from his concussion.
