Why Britt Baker Isn't Wrestling For AEW Anymore (AEW News)
Britt Baker is approaching one year off AEW TV.
With Britt Baker completely absent from last week's AEW Dynamite from D.M.D.'s hometown of Pittsburgh, that has once again thrown up plenty of fan chatter about the former AEW Women's Champion's continued absence from TV.
When asked during the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A why Britt has "vanished" from AEW programming, Sean Ross Sapp noted how it was "pretty clear" why Baker is off TV. SRS referenced the Roll Model's "highly publicized altercation with MJF", the poor match that Britt Baker and Mercedes Moné had at All In 2024, and the incident where Baker very vocally said "nobody cares" on camera several times as part of a program with Serena Deeb.
That Mercedes bout was only Britt's third match back after close to a year out injured, and Sapp also mentioned how AEW has to "shoulder some of the blame" for putting Baker in that All In match "without appropriate reps" after "working through injuries for years". SRS does believe we'll see Britt Baker again, noting how much she's done in AEW already, and how she can still be a "great contributor".
Having dealt with various injury issues, including back issues, Britt made her long-awaited return at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024, appearing after Mercedes Moné had defeated Stephanie Vaquer to become the NJPW Strong Champion. The Good Doctor would be back in action later that month, picking up a win over Hikaru Shida on Dynamite, then a short Collision win over Harley Cameron, before wrestling the CEO at All In. Following that loss to Moné, Britt wrestled two more times, the last of which came in November of last year, meaning we're approaching one whole year of Britt Baker being entirely absent from AEW.
After those "nobody cares" comments, reports quickly circulated that Tony Khan was "fed up" with Britt and that all creative plans had been totally dropped for her. Since then, there has been plentiful speculation over Baker's future, though it also reported earlier this year that she'd signed a new five-year contract with AEW in 2021, which would tie her down to the company until at least the end of 2026, with the chance of additional time being tacked on due to time out injured.
Given how AEW has so often presented Britt Baker in a major, major way whenever they've been in Pittsburgh in the past, some fans had hoped for an appearance from the 34-year-old on last week's Dynamite from Pittsburgh's Petersen Events Center. With that not happening, this once again puts Britt's status back in the spotlight.
