Why Bryan Danielson Chose AEW Over WWE

He struggled with the decision, but Daniel Bryan ultimately decided to become Bryan Danielson again.

The betterment of the wrestling business is part of what motivated Bryan Danielson's decision to sign with AEW after leaving WWE.

Dave Meltzer spoke on the matter during Wrestling Observer Radio, saying the 40-year-old considered what would be the best outcome for the industry as a whole. Like Mick Foley going to TNA in 2008, Danielson is of the belief that strong competition is to wrestling's benefit, so the chance to go to AEW and help elevate the company was part of it.

That AEW brings new opportunities and is a new place was part of it as well, as was being able to wrestle for New Japan Pro Wrestling. This will be possible under AEW contract, given their working relationship with the King of Sports, though WWE was willing to let him compete on NJPW shows too, despite Nick Khan's inability to close an exclusive talent-sharing deal with the company.

WWE and AEW ended up offering Danielson similar money after Bryan became a free agent in May. AEW, however, had the advantage of fewer dates, allowing their new signing to be at home more often.

Danielson made his AEW debut in the same segment as fellow newcomer Adam Cole at All Out 2021.
