Why Cody Rhodes Wants Steve Austin At WrestleMania 41 (WWE News)

Cody Rhodes thinks WWE should bend over backwards to get 'Stone Cold' at WrestleMania.

Cody Rhodes would love to see WWE work something out with Steve Austin in time for next spring's WrestleMania 41. In fact, the reigning WWE Champ and current poster boy told Unlikely that 'Stone Cold' doing "anything" on the grandest stage would be a win for the company overall.

Nothing can be ruled out at press time, that's for sure. Triple H will be keeping his options open, and the fact 'Mania 41 takes place in Paradise, Nevada (close to where Austin has a 'Broken Skull' ranch) might appeal to the legend. It'd be a short hop, skip and jump to get him down there for the weekend - Cody even pitched that WWE "helicopter him" in if they have to!

He wants 'Stone Cold' to play a part in proceedings whether he's doing anything physical or not. Why? Well, Rhodes pointed out that WWE is "in this unbelievable era where there’s good guys in the business again". Cody has always viewed Austin's character, antihero or not, as "the ultimate babyface who [had] the company on his back" for years.

Having someone so important around can only be good for roster morale and help make the show feel like a bigger deal than it already is.

Will 'Stone Cold' Work Another Match On The Grandest Stage?

Obviously, this is 100% Austin's decision to make. He surprised a lot of folks by agreeing to wrestle Kevin Owens at 'Mania 38 after a 19 year layoff. Most people thought he was done as an active wrestler, but everyone was dead wrong. WWE must've been privately hoping they'd be able to sell Steve on further bouts, but he hasn't taken the plunge...yet. Of course, that could change before next year's supershow.

'Stone Cold' doesn't need the money, so it'd need to be something creatively fulfilling. A long-sought after dream match vs. CM Punk has always been part of the conversation amongst fans, and this might be WWE's final chance to make something like that reality. Punk would almost certainly be game for a little rumble with his childhood hero.

Failing that, simply having Austin on tap to sink a few beers and hand out a few stunners would satisfy most of the fanbase. That's a spot Steve has worked countless times on WWE's showpiece event over the years since retiring as a full-time worker in 2003.

Cody didn't go into details with his thoughts on who Austin could wrestle (if anyone), but he does want 'Stone Cold' in the house. One thing's for sure: Steve's return would fall more on the genius side than the dumb one. It'd play before significant interest.
