Why WWE SHOULDN’T Re-Sign Brock Lesnar

Lesnar is a fighter, not a wrestler.

Lesnar, who hasn’t drawn new eyes to a “super-served” product received by a static core fanbase, is a pay-per-view attraction in a post-pay-per-view world.

Lesnar is a super-sized behemoth smashing through a roster literally shaped by a post-Wellness Policy world.

What makes Lesnar special serves only to normalise everybody else.

He simply does not belong in WWE.

Lesnar is too powerful a presence. Consider also the name stars he cannot viably work with in the future, in addition to his existing, patchy record.

The Miz?

Suspension of disbelief is difficult as it is, even when presented with a match such as Miz Vs. Roman Reigns. Even those who respect the hell out of his achievements use that respect to drive their reaction. Much of his offence looks ineffective. There’s no way he can viably oppose the most effective (storyline) act on the entire roster.

Kevin Owens?

KO is no longer the vicious Prizefighter of old. Besides, his bulky physique, effective in contrast with the lean, looks considerably more lax next to the super-shredded Night Mayor of Suplex City.

Bray Wyatt?

Lesnar is visibly more terrifying than a guy who can teleport.

A returning Chris Jericho?

What would that accomplish, the second the bell rings in Brock’s favour?

Shinsuke Nakamura?

That is an interesting proposition; the fearsome striking game of the King Of Strong Style is plausible enough - just - to warrant the investment.

There are few solutions on the horizon. Desperately few have proven themselves capable of working within the Suplex City limits. There are even fewer capable on paper. Lesnar holding a title exclusive to one brand is a proven problem - but why wouldn’t Lesnar, the character, gun for the title? He’s meant to be the guy we believe in. Three more years of Lesnar, removed from the title picture, would accomplish nothing. His aura would diminish over the course of a theoretical arc in which he puts various full-time acts over.

There is nothing left for a man incompatible with the fictional universe to do - and that is why WWE shouldn’t re-sign Brock Lesnar.
