Wrestling Moves That LOOK Horrible (...But Are Actually Totally SAFE!)

5. The Sharpshooter

When done badly, submissions in wrestling can lead to some rather embarrassing and awkward moments, with the opponents fighting to stay in the match being made to look somewhat silly if the move isn't tightly or effectively applied.

When done well, though, these holds can leave you wincing in your seat.

'The Excellence of Execution' himself Bret Hart was an absolute master of making his moves look like hell for his rivals, all while keeping them completely safe. And that was certainly the case whenever he locked them in his trusty Sharpshooter - known elsewhere as the Scorpion Death Lock.

Taking pride in the fact that he never once injured one of his colleagues in-between the ropes during his stellar career, Hart would brilliantly position his body in a way that made it look like he was slowly snapping his rival in two.

That, mixed with his panicking adversary flailing around on the ground, created a masterful illusion of this submission being one of the most brutal in existence. But this 'Hitman' had arguably the safest pair of hands in wrestling history, so it's safe to assume being caught in his Sharpshooter wasn't anywhere near as painful as it seemed.
