9. Sting Vs The Rock

The battle of icons, two charismatic men who defined their era, finally meeting in a battle for the ages. The Rock vs Sting makes sense on various levels - the face of WCW versus the face of the WWE. While many fans have pointed to The Undertaker vs Sting as a dream match, I think Rock would make for a far more entertaining dynamic. Both in the ring and on the mic, WCW's icon Sting versus WWE icon The Rock is pure gold. The trouble with Sting vs Undertaker is that nobody would really buy the WCW star coming in as a challenge to The Deadman. That totally negates any engagement of the match as a believable contest. In contrast, against Rock, WWE could book Sting in a more threatening role - and the buildup would be far more electric than the darkness inevitably involved in any Taker / Sting story. The promos that Rock and Sting could cut on each other would be hugely entertaining. Rock could have a lot of fun in this role, perhaps reverting to his more natural heel persona. The match itself would be the kind of entertaining contest in the same vein as Rock vs Hogan, a re-telling of the "Icon vs Icon" story. Given Sting's prowess as a worker and Rock's natural athleticism it stands a very good chance of being a classic. Both men use the sharpshooter and that could lead to some fantastic transitions and drama toward the end of the match. Will our hopes of Rock vs Sting ever come true? It seems doubtful. After being strongly linked with a WWE debut in 2014, Sting appears to have been swayed towards TNA once again. As for Rock, he is enjoying huge success in Hollywood. A Wrestlemania 31 return is a possibility, but a 2014 WWE run isn't something we should hold our breath for. But this is the wrestling business - who would have thought a year ago that Vince McMahon would be shaking hands with Bruno Sammartino and Ultimate Warrior as he has done this year? Anything can happen in WWE.
