WWE: 10 Dream Matches That Could Happen In 2014

8. Rey Mysterio Vs AJ Styles

AJStyles copy There was a golden era in independent wrestling in the early to mid 2000's. A select few guys were taking plaudits for some of the best wrestling in the world - notably CM Punk, Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe. The leader of that pack however was AJ Styles. The talented athlete could do it all - superior high flying, intelligent mat wrestling, fantastic selling and one hour matches. He has gone on to establish himself as a pillar of TNA, but that relationship has now soured. Styles has recently became a free agent, and despite his reputation in the industry, he is yet to be picked up by WWE. My dream would be for WWE to sign Styles up and get behind him with a solid push. It is highly unlikely, but AJ Styles unleashed across WWE could give the company multiple match of the year contenders. However, the reality is probable that WWE at the top office don't even know who AJ Styles is. Those who are aware of him probably decree him to be "too small" and "not WWE material". If Styles was picked up, chances are WWE would limit his repertoire and retrain him in the WWE style. They would then probably give him some sort of filler role in the style of Justin Gabriel, rarely getting on TV and mostly being used to put over guys over. The dream scenario would be that WWE do end up signing Styles and give him the Punk / Bryan push. The company is reportedly wanting to return to pushing bigger guys in 2014, but Bryan and Punk have proved there is a market for smaller athletic workers. The guy I envision Styles coming in and working with is Rey Mysterio. The Mexican at his best is a sight to behold, but injury has curtailed his performances in recent years. AJ could be the man to revitalize Rey. As two small fast paced workers they could deliver an athletic and exciting match in the vein of Rey's classics with Eddie Guerrero. Both on the mat and in the air, Rey and AJ could let it all shine in this match.
