WWE: 10 Drug Scandals Wrestling Didn't Want You To Know About

3. Rey Mysterio Amphetamine Suspension

rey mysterio Undoubtedly a special talent, Rey Mysterio has wowed audiences with his innovative, fast paced, high flying style for over twenty years now. He has recently returned to the WWE for yet another run - but the fact is that he should really be retired. Mysterio has been plagued by injury in the last few years, his body is worn down from years of brutal wrestling. His knees are in terrible shape, and ther have been other surgeries and health problems. Amid all this pain Mysterio has developed substance abuse problems, and even entered WWE rehab to fight off his painkiller addiction. It is a sad fact that a man who watched best friend Eddie Guerreo endure such awful drug problems has now himself ended up with his own drug battles. Rey's most recent drug suspension was in 2012, with Wrestling Observer Editor Dave Meltzer reporting that Rey had tested positive for amphetamine. There was some controversy surrounding this suspension. Firstly, it was seen to be harsh on Mysterio, who was tested when he was out injured and coming along to a local WWE show in his home town of San Diego. Many backstage felt it harsh that an out of action Mysterio was ushered into drug testing as soon as he turned up at his local arena, before he even had chance to say "hi" or shake any hands. Meltzer speculates that the WWE in fact wanted to catch Mysterio out, unhappy at how long he had been out injured. The suspension had further mystery when the WWE didn't formally announce the failure until months afterward.
