WWE: 10 Great Wrestlers Who Are Now Retired

3. Edge

Edge Wwe A great of the entertainment era and pioneer in the attitude era, Edge is 100% retired due to severe spinal and neck injuries. He leaves behind a legacy which makes him one of the greatest retired wrestlers around. His tag team work in the attitude era was at a level which the WWE could only dream of now, his spearing of Jeff Hardy off a ladder one of the greatest pop moments of that era. Throw in a ton of other great bouts with The Hardys and Dudleys and you can conclude that Edge was one of the key men of the Attitude era. There was an epic cage match at Unforgiven 2000 and a load more great bouts which most fans have probably forgot. Edge and Christian are right up there with the best tag teams ever. Edge moved into his life as a singles wrestler with a mixed start. Clearly a great wrestler and promo man, he struggled as a babyface but found his calling as a heel in the WWE feud of the last decade with John Cena. The Rated R Superstar held several world titles and had a perfect chemistry with Cena, their rivalry was classic, the promos fantastic and the matches even better. Who can forget Edge taking an FU off the top of a ladder and through a series of tables? Edge enjoyed other great matches too, notably a superb hardcore match at Wrestlemania in which he speared Mick Foley through a flaming table. However, such a visually stunning ring style took its toll on Adam Copeland the man. Edge was forced to retire in 2011 due to the severity of his bad neck, and went out in style, defending the world title against Alberto Del Rio at Wrestlemania and then retiring as champion the next night on Raw.
