6. Vs. John Cena (Summerslam 2008)
One of the great things about the parallel rises of Batista and John Cena in the WWE was that it immediately foretold a future mega-showdown between them. From the moment that they each became relevant, they were always on different shows. There was but a brief moment in 2005 when the Draft Lottery brought WWE Champion, John Cena, to the place of residence where Batista was fast becoming "The Man" as the World Heavyweight Champion. For a short period, it seemed like the two would end up on a collision course in a hurry, but Batista was drafted to Smackdown in a move just as surprising as Cena being shipped over to Raw. It took three more years for the pair to end up on the same roster again. Batista was a 2008 Raw Draft Lottery pick, putting him on Cena's show. WrestleMania 25 seemed the perfect place for them to clash and it had even been suggested via internet rumor that Triple H, even then becoming more heavily involved in the day-to-day operations, wanted Cena vs. Batista to main-event the 25th Anniversary spectacular. It was a bit of a shocker when the WWE pulled the trigger on their first-ever match for Summerslam 2008. Raw, though, needed a main-event opposite Smackdown's Hell in a Cell match between Edge and Undertaker that CM Punk was, at the time, ill-equipped to provide. Rightly billed as a "blockbuster" affair, Batista vs. Cena lived up to the hype in a babyface match that will go down as one of Summerslam's most underrated bouts. Batista won the match, sending Cena off to neck surgery in the process.
